The Kinks
The Kinks are a criminally underrated band in my opinion. I think a lot of their stuff is superior to their contemporaries The Rolling Stones, The Who and The Beatles.

It's a mystery why they never cracked the USA.

'Cos he's a huge Arsenal fan.

Which is a) not as bad as being a Tottenham fan and b) fair enough if you were born and raised in Muswell Hill.

Working man's cafe is worth a listen.
Can't understand why he didn't throw in Bobby Moores name in the London song.

The Kinks / Squeeze / Voice of the Beehive / The 4 of Us / 29 Palms
Aug 12, 1990 Alexandra Palace London, England, United Kingdom

Went to this show just to see voice of the beehive but stayed to see squeeze as well.

Think I left about 5 songs in when The Kinks came on stage.

FC.

I know what you mean. I love the stuff CSNY churned out, just wish Crosby would have been a bit less of a cunt, very unplesant character.

Re: The Kinks
onebilly, I will never forgive Nash for leaving the Hollies to join up with that cunt, David Crosby. Steven Stills and Neil Young are alright though

They did get to the USA eventually, though, didn't they? - and had quite a bit of success, I think.

Re: The Kinks
They were about to crack the States by going on network TV there, but their manager wasn’t with them when the “Union” rep asked them so sign the Allowed To Go On TV paper, so they said “We don’t sign papers; only our manager does.”

The rep said they “ HAD TO.”

Ray Davies’ brother said something like “Stick you paperwork up your arse, we ain’t signing it.”

A few minutes later they were told their appearance was cancelled, and they were black listed from all US venues of any note.

There ended their American Dream, and their music was much more Englishcentric after that.

Cough and Feet.

Alan Clarke was a great vocalist. And any band that included Graham Nash must have had something going for them.

Not as criminally underrated as the Hollies.

Indeed, both Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliot were/are brilliant musicians

Re: The Kinks
The Kinks did 'crack the States'. But not until their popularity in the UK was at an all-time low.

UK fans mostly like the early stuff up until Muswell Hillbillies (1971). The Yanks mostly like heavy rock stuff from Sleepwalker (1977) onwards.

Nobody likes the theatrical crap in the middle that destroyed their UK fanbase.

Some great Kinks records ...I still have most of their vinyl.

I've seen Ray Davies interviewed a few times and he comes across as a right twat !
